is it possible to get coppermine sidebar galleri to not transfer people over to copermine when they click on the pictures?

No, if you want people to stay in your blog, you could put your images into your media database of the blog, and use the "media database" sidebar plugin. This could then display an image inside your blog.

Using coppermine, I don't think it's possible. I believe coppermine is used through thaat block-random.php code by coppermine? Maybe coppermine has an option to open a new image as a popup instead of inside the gallery view?
