Hi,

is there anybody out there who is able to build a plugin that automatically reformats a blog's content for optimal viewing on Apple's iPhone and iPod touch? The guys from Contentrobot have done this for Wordpress. Maybe someone could do it for s9y as well...

Thanks a lot!
Flo

Hi!

I'm volunteering, if someone gives me an iphone. :-)

Yeah, anybody out there who can donate it to Garvin? ;-)

By the way, the wordpress plugin can be downloaded here. Maybe this is helpful for creating a version for s9y.

What is so special while formating for the iPhone? Isn't that a normal mobile browser? I was thinking of doing something like this for mobile devices in general, as I want to have it on my Nokia E61, too.

But I won't have the time in the near future to implement it. But wasn't there already a general mobile device reformatter? I thought I read something about this, when I started with Serendipity..

Well, the mobile Safari browser on the iPhone is quite special. There are several options that you have with this special browser and it would be great to have my blog formatted for these options. I would do it on my own but PHP ist not my biggest strength...

I'm considering picking this one up. There is a nice wordpress plugin called wptouch (see http://www.bravenewcode.com/wptouch/ ) and I think it would be a nice option for s9y to offer such a view.

Already had a smalltalk with yellowled about it, but we haven't reached a starting point. Any more input from you guys? It might be possible to have an alternative stylesheet for a given theme, depending on the browser. I think it would also be possible to detect the user-agent within an event plugin and change the output - advantage is, that this will work for all templates.

Anything we've missed? Any plugin that this functionality would fit in? Or is there no need for this at all?

Hi!

I actually hate iphone optimized webpages with less functionality. I prefer to have the usual webpage on my iphone, the browser is good enough. *g*

However, check out the serendipity_event_mobileoutput plugin. It should even come with an iphone theme.

Garvin

That was pretty easy to miss, suprisingly all threads mentioning the plugin manage to avoid the keyword iphone  (not anymore thanks to this thread :) )

I've installed the plugin and while it does seem ok I do agree with you: it's missing a button to show the website in it's normal layout. wptouch has this button. That would give choice back to the visitor.
