User Self-Registrater Error

Hi all,
I have just installed the user self register plug-in. It was pretty easy to install; however, when I tried to register, it didn't do anything but gave an error message, "error". Could someone please tell what am I missing?
You can try it by the link below:
http://www.chhito.com
and scroll down, the user self register is at the bottom of the right sidebar.
Thank you very much in advance for any help.
Sincerely,
TNT

Hi!
Do you also have the event plugin "User-self registration" enabled?

Hi Garvin,
Yes, I had the user self register event enabled. I looked in the plug-in config, it is pretty straight forward. Unless I missed something that I don't know. I could create an account and pm to you on my site, and you can take a look if you don't mind. Thank you very much for your help.

Hi!
It could be that the error happens because no articles are displayed on that page. Can you try to add a blog entry and see if that changes anything?
Another cause of this could be the plugin configuration of the adduser event and sidebar plugin, could you tell us which settings you have there?
Giving me an account sadly does not help that much in this case.

Garvin

Hi Garvin,
I have added a blog, but the error didn't go away. Where is the adduser event that you mentioned? I used the default setting for the user self register. It's interesting that when I installed the user self register event, it automatically showed up the right sidebar. I didn't have to install it. Is it supposed to do that? I am not sure what I did wrong. Maybe, I need to reinstall the whole thing again. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi!
Can you make a screenshot of your settings for both the event and sdiebar plugin?
Yes, the plugin installs the two plugins at once, if one of them is installed.

Garvin

Hi!
The configuration is alright, thanks.
It's really strange, I don'T really know where the error comes from, never seen that behaviour. Can you manually download the plugin from
http://spartacus.s9y.org/ and see if the files on your website have the same size like in that ZIP file? It could be that some file is broken on your space.
The only other thing might be another event plugin interfering., Which event plugins do you have installed, and in which order?

Garvin

Hi Garvin,
I have reinstalled the serenhdipity on my web site. I didn't install any plugins except the default plugins which installed with the package. After I finished the installation, and everything seemed to work fine. I finally downloaded the User Self-Register event plugin from s9y.org web site and installed it. I used the default configuration. Disappointedly, it got the same error. Do you have any suggestions that I can do next. Thank you very much for your patient. I really tried on my own before I have to ask for help.
Sincerely,
TNT

Hi!
Hm, I really don't know where that "Error" does come from. I can only offer to have a look at your site, if you can give me temporary FTP access to your site? IF you want to do that, send me a PM.

Garvin

Thank you very much for your help. I followed your instruction and it fixed the problem. I enabled the smtp function in the php.ini and that was it. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Garvin,
I am sorry, I have to bug on you again. I have fixed the smtp problem, but now I have a new problem with sending email. Yahoo smtp relay mailserver reject the activation email because the format.
I have this problem sending activation email to the new register user. Apparently, Yahoo smtp relay mailserver rejecting the email because of the format of activation email. Here is the error I got.
"SMTPC" 952 91 "2008-01-31 16:18:54.609" "66.196.96.87" "RECEIVED: 451 See

"SMTPC" 952 91 "2008-01-31 16:18:54.609" "66.196.96.87" "SENT: QUIT"
I have talked Yahoo, and they suggested that I have to fix the email format. Could you please tell me how I can do that? Where is the activation email stored? Thank you very much for helping.
Sincerely,
TNT

Hi!
Actually it seems, your local SMTP is creating the trouble! Serendipity's sending routines should actually be right as they are.
Which SMTP server are you using? Is it maybe on the list of
http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html ?

I have a mailserver running in windows 2003. It's is hmaiserver software. I also install php with smtp enable. I am not sure which software causing the error. I have talked to the hmaiserver devloper people, and they said the error is not coming from the hmailserver software. Could it be the php smtp server causing the error? I didn't even install the smtp server from windows 2003. Thanks again for your help.

Hi!
Sadly I don't know hmaiserver - I can only tell you that the code that s9y uses works fine with every linux mailer, and with the "Mercury" SMTP server for windows that is delivered with XAMPP for example. So, actually, I'm PRETTY sure that hmaiserver is the root of your trouble. Maybe you can try another SMTP server.

Garvin
