From the main site I've been assuming that to correctly run S9y you must have your own server. I, on the other hand, do not run my own server, but have my web hosting done by www.1and1.com. They have php, mysql, etc. so I am hopeful to at least attempt at using s9y with my account. So, I'm wondering if this is possible at all with s9y?

Up until yesterday, you needed to be able to override some apache directives. Today, you don't, Garvin and Tom have changed the install to allow running s9y in much more restrictive environments. I am running s9y (at http://yi.org/craig ) in such an environment (free webspace at my ISP, with PHP, MySQL and VERY restricted .htaccess controls).

You will need to download the CVS version either using CVS or a nightly snapshot from the download page (but wait another day if you are going to use a snapshot).

Hi! I also use a 3rd party server, and persuant to this thread I downloaded the Jan 18 snapshot of seredipity. I've unpacked all the files, but I am still really unsure as to exactly what I need in my .htaccess file. I no longer have to be able to access my server's httpd.conf file, correct? (Because I can't, nor could I reset the server)
Normally I hate asking such a noobtastic question, but I really can't tell what I need .htaccess to say. Is that the only file I will need to modify? I already chmodded the serendipity directory. Thanks in advance!

I downloaded and unpacked s9y 0.5 today and uploaded it via ftp onto my 1and1.com account and I still get the error 500. Perhaps I have to do something with my account, idk.
