How do I disable mod rewrite so that the gallery2 plugin will work properly? According to other postings I need to disable mod rewrite, but can't figure out how to do it.

You can do this in your admin screen under Configuration -> Appearance and Options. Find the URL Rewriting option and set it to Disable URL Rewriting.
