Dangerous bullet IE 5 vs Bulletproof

Ladies & Gentlemen,

first of all: Bulletproof is great. I appreciate the admin-interface and the options in the Themes-Menu which make it much easier to change the look of a site. (Thanks for your work!)

So I decided to choose BP as template for the renewal of our school's homepage: http://bs-eutin.de (work in progress, of course!). I build the homepage home on my Mac.

Then I went to school to talk with some colleagues about the homepage and saw this: http://bs-eutin.de/uploads/temp/bloeder ... plorer.png (look at the menus in the sidebars).

Unfortunately it seems that BP is not IE5-approved ... but IE5 is running on a lot of computers in the school (and homes of pupils as well I think).

Is there a way to get IE to show what it should show?

Kind regards,
Hanjo.

We maintained compatibility with IE5 for as long as we possibly could. At some point, the effort to continue that compatibility exceeded what we (the developers felt) were the benefits.

That being said, however, bulletproof does have the ability to detect IE versions, and load a stylesheet specific to the IE version. We are already doing so for IE6 and IE7.

I'm going to let Yellowled step in on this one as you, and he, are from the same town! If anyone can help you, he is in the best position to do so!

*sigh* :)

As Don already stated and you assumed yourself, BP does not "support" IE5. Yes, there is the possibility to add an extra IE5 stylesheet. However, having that stylesheet alone will not solve those issues. Plus, as far as I know, there are even differences between the IE5 minor version like 5.5 and 5.01 ...

Yes, we were aware that. However, I would still suggest to do some advocacy here. I realize many people, especially those using IE at work, do not have the option to choose which browser they want to use (or even which version of said browser). But if at all possible, anyone should make at least an attempt to get their workplace to upgrade to at least IE6. This isn't only about making life easier for web designers (Personally, I don't care much about Windows or IE.), we may also be talking security risks here. Never mind, I'm rambling. Sorry :)

It will be one hell of a ride, but I'll try. I'll contact you later via email so we can work something out.
