use as cms

Hey Guys,

I just happen to find out about serendipity, have to say looks real nice.

I see it can be used as a cms as well, however once i installed it, the site looks more like a blog. Can someone please direct me on how to get it to use like a cms for a client website ?

Serendipity *IS* content management (CMS) - exactly what it looks like will be determined by the template you are using. However, the majority of templates available are designed for blog applications as that is what s9y is used for by the majority of users. Dave Cummins has designed templates for more of a commercial look & feel, and you can check his work out here: http://themes.daves.me.uk/index.php?

Thanks for the quick response.

I took a look at Dave's work, however what i see there is all blog templates. Is there a free / gpl version of any template which can make s9y look like a commercial site ?

You might want to take a look at Carl Galloway's smallbiz01 template.

Also, you'll probably want to search this forum for hints on how to deactivate blog-specific features like trackbacks etc.

three things for a "normal"-look-like website:

1) use static-pages
2) use the static-pages-sidebar for the site-structure
3) use one static-page as startpage.

Thanks for the pointers, is there a plugin for creating the static pages ? I tried looking in the plugins section, didn't find any

Yes, the (surprise!) Static Pages plugin

- available on http://spartacus.s9y.org. You can also install it using the Spartacus plugin which comes with s9y.

I've emailed Carl about the download links, I'm sure he's going to touch base with you soon.

Hi, I've just fixed the broken links on that page, please accept my apologies for this. As an aside, I'm experiencing performance issues with my host, and I suspect quite a lot of downtime. I'm reviewing how to deal with that, whether I change host, or leave a static html page there instead, but for the moment, the links seem to work.
