I have "Default settings for new entries -> draft".

When i edit an already published article, the dropdown menu is always on draft and if i don't remember to set it to "publish" the artice is - you guess right - set to draft and disappear from the site.

Isn't it possible to keep the old status for old articles and only use the setting draft for new articles as descripted at the configuration page ?

Indeed what you reported was a bug, which I've just fixed.
