s9y 1.1.3 wysiwyg editor causing a firefox crash

I've noticed a few threads about the WYSIWYG but not quite my problem I think, so here goes.

When I enable the advanced editor my browser crashes, just the loading itself causes crashs, but only when I choose to EDIT an entry, not when I make a NEW entry.
When I choose preview or save my browser crashes. I do get the message about the XMLRPC call but my browser freezes and it's end of story!

I'm using:

S9y: 1.1.3
FF: 2.0
OS: Linux

Hi!

Hm, browser crashes should best be reported to the Firefox people.

I do not notice any Crashes here with recent Windows Firefox. It very much sounds like an OS/FF issue.

Garvin

dynom,

It sounds like an issue with a plugin inside firefox. You may want to disable all plugins/addons temporarily and see if the problem still exists. If the problem does not happen then slowly start adding plugins back in. Once you find the plugin that is causing the issue I would no longer use it or check for updates.

One of the largest issues with firefox is badly programmed plugins. Personally I tend to stick with a few tried and true plugins that I can trust to work. Many of the smaller plugins have memory leaks and can cause other problems.

If you do not want to disable all plugins and just want to see if thats where the problem exists then you should use safe mode. This will temporarily disable all extensions and themes. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

A issue I had with the default install of Ubuntu a few years ago was the fact that it used 16bit color rather than 24bit. This caused firefox to crash every single time flash tried to load. Changing this setting in the xorg.conf resolved the issue.

If this does not work I would suggest reinstalling firefox in your Linux distro. How you would go about doing this will vary by your distro. If you do not know how to do this let me know what distro you are running and I will be glad to help.
