Newbie error

I am malfunctioning and can't get serendipity to work properly!:

I've ftp'd the files to my eu32.co.uk/blog
If I navigate to mywebsite.co.uk/blog/ then it recognises and goes to:
http://www.eu32.co.uk/blog/serendipity_admin.php
and am given the option between simple and expert installation.

-Clicking on simple, and leaving things as they are, then clicking complete installation leads to a blank page.
-Clicking on expert is baffling because there is no complete installation button at the bottom of the next page.

I have not 'uploaded a database' I believe. Maybe this is where I am going wrong. The site is hosted on easily.co.uk, where they say:

"(1) Updating the MySQL database by remote access (ODBC, DSN connections) is not permitted on Easily hosting accounts. Nor is remote connection to an external database. This means that you cannot use any other database on your hosting account than the MySQL database included with your package. Uploading an Access database will not work. "

Hi!

That's a really strange thing. I can ony guess this can happen if you didn't fully FTP all of your files successfully. Try to re-upload and make sure the upload works properly?

It might also be that because of some other reason your site is throwing a fatal PHP error, but not displaying it because of a PHP setting. Can you ask your webprovider if they can spot anything related to a Fatal PHP Error in their logs?

Tech support say that I don't have a database and that I need to upgrade at a cost of about £20......so I think I'll be going with blogger/other free blogging software. Thanks for your help.

Hi!

Okay, I understand that. Did you have a look at www.supersized.org?
