Blocking Comments

Hi everybody,
these days i'm being spammed by some nasty guys. Their IP's and e-mails are constantly changing, but they allways make the advertisement for the same web site. Would there be any possibility to introduce in S9Y an option permitting to "ban" users using a specific URL ?

Something like IF URL = "www.spam.com" THEN commentary = refused

I don't know if it's possible, but it would be a great feature. I delete about 20 comments every days and start to be tired with that...

Hi Jr Prod,

This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but may help to alleviate the problem with spammers (I hate them too). If you go into the administration interface and then into configuration. Under the section "Appearance and Option", there is a field for you to populate with the domain names of spammers to block from your site.

Additionally, I have also tried a few other methods of fighting off the spammers.

thanks a lot, I think this will be very helpful ! I looked at your htaccess file and you've got the same spammers as me : texas-holdem and all the poker-online stuff...

So really thanks !

But I still think that it would be a good feature to be able to block comments using a specific e-mail address, a specific URL or a specifi user-name...

Garvin, is something like that faisable for the 0.8 version ?

Hi Jr Prod,

I have found that by adding the domain names of the spammers into my .htaccess file, I have been successful in blocking them from getting to my site. The trouble is that as you can see from my .htaccess file, these guys have registered multiple domain names to do their spamming. The only way is to keep adding to your .htaccess file.

The spamblock plugin that Garvin refers to is great as well. This uses the "Captcha" method to prevent comment spamming by requiring a human to enter a random code in order to save the comment.
