multi blog template colour change

Post by jamesmusic »

i was wondering if it was possible to change the colour of individual pages with a multiple blog template?

For example i am building a central blog with around 10 sub-catagories and would like to make each one a different coloured theme... is this possible? :?

alternativley i could craft custom templates for each catagory, but how would would i connect them together...?

I hope i've explained myself properly! Any ideas are welcomed!

Thanks,

James

Hi!

There's a plugin called "serendipity_event_categorytemplates" where you can assign templates to each category. Is this what you were searching for?

Hello Lordcoffee,

thanks for the suggestion!

is it called ' Properties/Templates of categories' in the event plugin section?

I'm not entirely sure how this works as it only offers me Password protection for the categories...perhaps its a different one? or should i got into the php and edit the script?

Many thanks,

James

i've tried changing the blog templates for different catagories but they don't seem to have any effect...what could i be doing wrong?

"Select the template you wish to use for your blog"
e.g. Coffee Cup

When i go to the blog page, it doesn't seem to change the template...
hmmm

any suggestions?

:?

Hi!

Sorry that the instructions seem unclear. You must enter the PATH to the template in the file and not the NAME of it. If you enter "competition" for example, the coffee cup template is used. Always enter the path name there.

hi garvin,

could you explain once more please - as i'm still struggling to get it working...

I've been doing the following -

Select the template you wish to use for your blog : Competition
Or : Coffee Cup (from drop down menu)

Variations of this are having very little effect - sometimes making the text vanish, sometimes making the template itself vanish!

When you say i must enter the PATH, is that the url of the template folder?

Thanks for your time,

James

Hi!

In the backend, you can apply the default layout to your blog by going to the admin menu and click on 'Manage Styles'. There you click on the install button of the theme you want to use.

To display the theme properly, you might need to reload your browser cache (Restart the browser or hit F5).

I don't know which dropdown you are speaking of, but I figure you must mean the Frontend Template Selector dropdown.

You should NOT use that dropdown. Uninstall it. It will not fit into your concept of having different templates for different categories.

Now on to the "Templates of Categorys" plugin. Once you have that installed, you can go to the backend and click on 'Categories'. there pick the category for which you want to set a special template, click on its edit button. On that page you have the input field to enter the directory name of a template you want to use. If you want to set the 'Serendipity 3.0' default template to a special catgory, enter 'carl_contest' there. For another category you might want to pick 'competition' or 'contest'.

When on the frontend you now select a category, the category will display using the configured template.

HTH,
Garvin

This is exactly what i've been doing, yet nothing has been working... not sure what to do!

Hi!

What exactly have you entered there on that category field? You must make sure the directory name is entered exactly with the right upper/lowercasing.

What's the URL where you run your serendipity?

Hi!

I just looked at the page. The problem is that all of your pages use the same stylesheet. Could it be that you modified your index.tpl template file and hardcoded the .css files there?

What's the name of your current template directory? It might be an issue with this template, that it does not have a index.tpl file that goes well with the category-templates plugin! :(

Best regards,
Garvin

hmm thanks for having a look - the template is called 'Green Mile 1.1'
and the directory is '...shows/templates/GreenMile'
I believe it is an issue with the category-template plug-in and this particular template.
Which is a real shame, as its a great design - perfect for what i wanted to do!
I'll try contacting Lord Coffee to see if there is anyway around it!

Many thanks,
James

Hi!

Hm, GreenMile does have this code in the index.tpl:

Code: Select all

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="{$head_link_stylesheet}" />
And this should really point to the 'serendipity_categorytemplate' Link.

Can you please provide a screenshot of your event plugin configuration overview as well as a screenshot of the special category where you assigned a different template to? I somehow believe there is something missing.

Best regards,
Garvin
