i dont get it... your gonna think im an idiot but w/e i tried searching and can't read deutsch so I'll just ask.
I was first giving up on the gallery plugin b/c I just couldn't get it to work right so I switched to installing forum.. phpbb..
I then installed the plugin for the forum... entering my SQL information as well. I'm confused though!
I thought it would just wrap around the forum I installed but instead its like it created a new forum!?!?!
So can I create sub-forums? I honestly like it b/c its simple but perhaps a little too simple for my liking but just wandering what it is exactly! Seperate from the forum I installed??! dont get it!

thanks

Hi!
The forum plugin supports two things:
1. It provides its own forum for Serendipity.
2. It allows you to not use the own forum, but link to a phpBB2 installation, where the entries you create are automatically posted frmo serendipity to phpBB, and comments will be made to phpb instead of to serendipity!
So the question is, do you want to use the forum of serendipity? Or do you want to mirror entries and comments to a phpbb2 installation (which you maintain on its own)?
HTH,
Garvin

well I think the forum add on is great, but not what I expected. What I expected was a more fuller version of phpbb being implemented rather than the simpler version.
I also expected using the standard phpbb admin panel, but it is instead like two different installations of phpbb... which is cool as its a basic forum that is very functional, but not what I expected.
Thanks.

I'm sorry to not meet your expectations

The Forum plugin is not about full integration really, it's more providing a very simply forum for the blog.

lol Garvin... you exceeded my expectations and I hope that I sense sarcasm. I have much respect for php developers and their devotion (especially opensource)..
The forum is excellent for what it is. Thanks.

Hi!
No, I really meant it that I was sorry the forums plugin isn't sophisticated enough. I didn't create it though, so I don't feel *that* guilty about it
Thanks for the kind words!

Garvin

So weit, so gut.

Hi!
This is the english speaking forum, as you have gathered from the thread below.
Your problem is, the required images of the forum plugin do not show. In the HTML output, this link is used:
http://heikofranz.he.funpic.de/serendip ... thread.png
when I call it, I get a HTTP 500 server error. Please try to find out, why. If you solve that error, you will see buttons for creating new posts into your forum.
Best regards,
Garvin

Ok, thank you so far. I'll do my very best and will try it in english from now.
It is really strange. If you follow the URL:
http://heikofranz.he.funpic.de/serendip ... ent_forum/
you can't see the /img/ subfolder. But i am absolutely sure that it is there.
I used my FTP-Program to check it. There is everything like it should be.
The folder exists, the graphicfiles are included and everything seems to be fine.
I don't have any idea whats going wrong.
It's really strange.
Ok, let's see what happens if i try to post one of the images here.....

Mhmm. As we see, we see nothing, although i reupped the files just a minute ago. I don't get it why.
Do you have any idea?

Hi!
Hm, it might be permission issues, did you check the ownership and privileges of the 'img' directory?
Otherwise, you might need to ask your provider what's happening.

Thanks.
I solved the problem now. It was because of the htaccess-file in the img-folder. I deleted it and now everything works.

i wanted to implemt a forum (i have one currently based here
http://musflashtv.forum5.com/index.php)
it'd be great to get any of the blog posts mirrored into a forum too, plus the comments...
but i'm not sure how this 'serendipity_event_forum' works - are their any instructions available anywhere?
best wishes,
james

Yes, the forum plugin can mirror that to a phpbb2 installation. Just enter the account details into the forum plugin config, the rest should happen autoamtically.

I believe there are a few threads here in this forum about that plugin.

hi garvin, thanks for the help! i've installed phpBB2 and created a forum identical to the one that was on our site previously...
we can duplicate blog entries into the forum - but how can i make each category go to the correct forum topic?
also, if i want to comment on an article, can i disable the 'continue discussion in forum' link (as it doesnt seem to work, merely takes back to the front blog page) OR could i have the link AND the comment on article box?
many thanks
James

ok, maybe it was some teething problems, but the discussion link, almost works..it takes the user to the forum at least....
and the comment box is back working now...

)
still wondering about how to get the category to match the forum topic?
cheers,
j
