I have also been slammed with hundreds of comments that are spam. I need a solution...
If anyone has any ideas, please tell me.

I have now added a captcha plugin and several other checking methods for enhancing the spamprotector plugin.
Please check it out in latest CVS (HEAD). The automatted snapshots on our page should contain the changes in tomorrows build.
