Look and see why that file cannot be created; check if the permissions are all set properly.

Hi!
the templates_c directory has the permission chmod 777

That musn't mean anything. Check if the mentioned file package_event_de.xml exists, and if that one is writable for your webserver user.
Maybe you entered wrong final permissions in the spartacus plugin configuration, so that spartacus cannot access the file anymore after it adjusted the permissions to the values you entered. In that case you need to manually fix up the permissions; a sample script how to do that is in the FAQ.

okay now it works but now i have another problem:
i don´t understand this here:
7. Configure the "Start Page Category" plugin. Enter the category ID ( you can find that in the admin panel within the links) inside the field "Initial hide category". This will then take care that entries from that category will not be shown on your default page.
what should i write there? in the configuration of the "Start Page Category" i just choose a category at "Versteckte Kategorien " but the category doesn´t hide...

Patience, young Padawan. It's christmas.
If you followed all the steps I mentioned, the categories should hide. It worked in my test. Describe what exactly you did and go through it all again, maybe I can help you further.

Yes, of course you need to fill in those fields. I told you that in my previous post.
Also make sure you're using s9y 1.0-alpha-1 at least. The hide categories stuff does not work with s9y 0.9.
Happy new year!

-Ursprungskategorie
- Versteckte Kategorien

Yes, that's right!
-Ursprungskategorie
Leave that empty.
- Versteckte Kategorien
Enter 12.
- Mehrere Ursprungskategorien
- Mehrere versteckte Kategorien
Leave that empty.
i don´t understand it

(((
Then you must read again, what I posted. And try a bit for yourself. Learning by Doing. Keine Arme, keine Kekse.

There is no possibility to enter 12... you can only choose (in a popup menu) the categorie name. and i have done that. the categorie, which i want to hide is "Tipps und Tricks" (look @ screenshot). When i now finish (clicking on "Speichern/save"...nothing happens... you can see the categorie on the mainpage.
i have Serendipity 1.0-alpha1 and PHP 4.4.1
and the version 1.1 of the plugin...

Ah, okay. I forgot about the dropdown.
From which date are you using 1.0-alpha1? You should be using one from at least 2005-12-10, because then the functionality got introduced...
I think I can only help you further if you can give me (temporary) FTP access to your blog, then I can look what's going on. Contact me privately, if you want to do that.

You could look at the timestamp of your docs/NEWS file. Or tell me which entry is the first of your NEWS file...
My bet is that you're not using the latest 1.0 alpha snapshot. It's docs/NEWS file should have this entry:
* Allow category sidebar plugin to hide the parent category, if
the plugin is configured to only show a leaf of a category tree

Hi!
but how can i update serendipity without the knowing of the visitors that i am doing this ...
You can't. But an update maybe takes a minute, during which you can setup a notice that upgrade is in progress. Look at our FAQ and the s9y.org documentation or the docs/UPGRADE file on what you need to put in your .htaccess file.
The advanced method is to have two staging servers, where you upgrade one server, while the old server still runs the old version. After the new server is upgraded, you switch the vhost to the new server.

Garvin
