A few comments
[1] The [ASIN:asin] etc entry markups should not depend on the ASIN's being pre-defined. In fact I'm thinking it should be independent of the sidebar and the ASIN cache and thought of as yet another markup plugin. Perhaps called "Markup: Amazon AWS" and modelled on one of the many markup plugins.
[2] perhaps caching amazon text and images could be included in a more general s9y cache.
[3] markups
Allow [asin: and [ASIN: as the trigger. (currently lowercase doesn't work)
[ASIN:asin|left] - Amazon image, left justified, similarly right and centre
[ASIN:asin|title|nn] - Amazon title, nn truncates text to nn chars and adds " ..."
[ASIN:asin|desc] - Amazon description
[ASIN:asin|comments - Amazon comments
-- there are probably more on further investigation.
[4] In addition to ASIN's Amazon can reference products by ISBN (books) and also by UPC. So perhaps a similar set of markups need to be repeated for these too.
[5] a css stylesheet to format the returned text would be needed.

website has been dead for a while, but the download link works.
this plugin has some potential, but needs someone who can change the code!
