Just remember that not every visitor may have the same hardware as you... You might have some super-wide monitor, but you should really design your template around the common masses.

I'd like to quit using tables. I need to find two things if anyone can point me in the right direction. I need an external stylesheet which I can use or modify for use. The second thing I need is some example html code using <div> to place text next to an image in an entry. I can and will experiment to find out how to do it, it would just speed it up for me if it is available.

You might want to use bulletproof as a starting point. It is, admittedly, packed with options, and those options mean a very complex index.tpl file. However, there are dozens of things you can change simply by changing the template's options rather than messing with code. Then you can focus on things like colors using just modifications to css.

As far as floating images left or right, just insert your images using the media manager as most templates provide css to float the image left or right based on how it was inserted with the media manager.
