Hi all,
Great blog software! I was wondering if someone could recommend the easiest way to accomplish the following:
I want to have the full blog with sidebar and all in one section of my site, but then I also want to display say the most recent 5 entries on my homepage, without the sidebar. I don't want to turn the sidebar off in the admin panel though, cause I still want it to appear in the "full" blog section.
The easiest thing I can come up with is parsing the rss feed to display entries on homepage. Is there an easier way?
Thanks!
Joe
Full blog on one page, only recent few entries on another?

Is your homepage generated by serendipity?

Re: Full blog on one page, only recent few entries on another?
Hi Don, thanks for the reply.
No, my homepage is not generated by Serendipity. This is an existing site that I've been asked to add a blog to. I've got Serendipity set up in its own folder on the site, and it runs great. I just want to be able to embed the most recent entries into the homepage somewhere.
I've found that Spartacus plugin "Show entries via JavaScript (serendipity_event_backend)" that says you can embed entries in an external site. I'd prefer not to use javascript to keep it SEO friendly, but if that method would work for this I'm ok with it short-term. I just want to get something working as quick as possible.
So is that the way to go for this? Or am I missing something obvious?
Thanks...
Joe

That plugin is exactly what I was going to recommend.

Re: Full blog on one page, only recent few entries on another?
Thanks Don,
I've installed the plugin, but can't quite figure out what URL to use in the <script src> attribute.
The Serendipity installation is here:
http://www.mydomain.com/serendipity
The exact path to that plugin:
http://www.mydomain.com/serendipity/plu ... nt_backend
I don't quite understand what the "Backend Url" attribute is for on the plugin config screen. I've read the documentation but can't seem to hit on the correct path to use in the <script src>.
I'll keep messing with it, but if you could offer a recommendation it would probably save me some time!
Thanks...
Joe
PS. if it isn't obvious by now, I'm not real PHP literate. I've been coding in Coldfusion for a few years but haven't had much need for PHP until recently (weird, I know). So that's probably the reason for my ignorance here... sorry.

I have never used the plugin Joe, so I am not going to be much help with the url. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Another possibility would be the use the rss-feed of serrendipity.
Many CMS-systems have a plugin to display rss-feed elements.
