Re: Enable forum page
hey, is there a way to get a link on the blog to the forums? painfully hard to find it otherway
Re: Enable forum page
Actually, different way. Depending on the template you're using, you might already have some kind of site navigation which either can be configured under "Manage Styles" (rather modern templates like Bulletproof usually have this) or has to be edited in one of the template files, usually index.tpl.dasq wrote:hey, is there a way to get a link on the blog to the forums? painfully hard to find it otherway
If your template does not offer a site navigation out of the box, you could either add one or use a HTML nugget (that's a sidebar plugin) in the sidebar to link to the forum.

Re: Enable forum page
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be dense ~ I installed the forum plug-in also. I see with each topic, there is an option to 'discuss in forum'......when I click this link, it goes back to front page, but not to any sort of forum. What am I doing wrong?
Garvin, I did not understand about: "Simply open http://yoururl/serendipity/index.php?se ... age]=forum" - I tried doing this in a few different places {replacing "yoururl" with my domain/url} and didn't get anywhere....can you explain what I need to do, please?
Thank you.

Re: Enable forum page
Hi!
when you see this link, you have enabled the phpBB Mirroring. If you enable that, you must make sure that you provide a phpBB forum installation link in the configuration of the plugin.
If you only want to use the internal plugin, disable phpBB mirroring, and simply call http://yourblog/index.php?serendipity[subpage]=forum. You can also tell us your URL so that we can have a look.
Regards,
Garvin

Hi!
Okay, I can have a look, but first you need to disable the phpBB forum mirroring in the plugin configuration.

Garvin

Re: Enable forum page
Hi!
Ah, I see. Can you tell me the full configuration of your plugin? There's a configuration option for "Forum URL" or "PAgetitle" or something like that, which is by default set to "forum". You might have changed it, which is why
http://trueimdi.com/TheBraidedWayBlog/b ... age]=forum
does not show a result. If you changed it frmo "forum" to "board" for example, the URL to open the forum would be:
http://trueimdi.com/TheBraidedWayBlog/b ... age]=board
HTH,
Garvin

Re: Enable forum page
Well, the Page Title area {the first line of the config} says "Discussion Forum" - I don't think I changed it or altered it at all.
I don't know if it helps, but the static URL reads: http://TrueImdi.com/serendipity/index.p ... age]=forum
Path to plug-in reads: /TheBraidedWayBlog/blogweb/plugins/serendipity_event_forum/
Do I need to go into my Control Panel to create files for this, or was that done automatically with this installation? {again, not trying to be dense, just learning as I go}

Re: Enable forum page
Hi!
Okay, the static URL is wrong. It should only contain "forum", not a URL - if you fix that, you should be able to call the URL I gave.

Re: Enable forum page
Thanks, Gavin....I did change that static URL to read: http://forum/serendipity/index.php?sere ... age]=forum
Is that right, or am I missing something?
I am not seeing anywhere that has a link for the forum at this point.

Re: Enable forum page
Hi!
That's wrong, you only need to change it to "forum". Not a url, but only this specific dynamic part of the URL.

That is true, the link to the forum needs to be added by yourself in a blog entry or a HTML sidebar nugget plugin. It does not appear automatically. Only phpBB mirroring links appear automatically, but for this you need a separate phpBB installation.I am not seeing anywhere that has a link for the forum at this point.

Re: Enable forum page
Thank you....silly me! haha
I am trying now to create 'boards' for this forum, but when I submit the board name and the description, nothing happens - meaning that I still get a 'no boards specified' message after I hit 'submit'.
I appreciate your help on all of this.....
