New user can't find an answer.

Post by daryl.morning »

I was wondering if anyone had set up something for a text only/minimalist browser for cellphones. I want to post on my blog and have it automatically post on a site for cellphones. I apologize if this has been answered but I searched and looked and didn't find it. Thanks in advance for anything!

I'm not sure exactly if this is what you are asking, but there is a plugin allowing posts by email.

I used this on one blog I setup to have posts sent from a phone to the email account which were then picked up by the blog.

You'll need the Cronjob scheduler plugin and the POPfetcher plugin.

There is also a Phoneblogz plugin, but I don't really know what that does! :D

Thanks but I need it to go the other way. From the full blog to a minimal blog for the older phones. Does that make sense?

So you have 2 blogs? Are both of them s9y? Maybe you could import your rss-feed in the cellphone-blog.

One blog but I want it to be easier for a phone to display, will an rss feed do that? I'm not familliar with that technology. I've never used one.

No. A RSS feed is for people using a special feed reader to view it.

So now it sounds as if you actually want one blog on one site, but different options to display it, i.e. a "usual" design for web visitors and users of modern mobile devices, but also a rather simpified, lean design for people with an older mobile device or only GSM connection available, right?

In that case your blog's template would have to offer different stylesheets for mobile devices (which can be kind of tricky because of the multitude of devices available), but also the option (i.e. for people with a modern phone and mobile broadband connection) to display the "usual" design on a mobile device.

That's why most services these days offer a seperate mobile site like i.e. m.twitter.com.

Anyway, we have the serendipity_event_mobileoutput plugin. Also see http://board.s9y.org/viewtopic.php?t=12157

That might be Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you, now to test it to see if it does what I need it to do. Thank you again.
