Show certain categories in header, hide them from sidebar

Post by mo »

Hi!
I want to modify my installation to show certain categories inside the header (serendipity_banner) and hide them from the category listing in the sidebar. How can I do that, and if possible without breaking update compatibility?

I thought about moving all "sidebar categories" into one parent category, and set the sidebar configuration to only show categories from that parent category. Is that the way to go?

How can I link to selected category and static pages in the header without introducing non-localized, fixed links?

Edit: This is how I'm trying to do it: I have added a "top sidebar" as explained here, and a slightly modified category list plugin for that top sidebar. I'll move the categories to different parent categories. Not sure yet how to add selected static page links.

I'm having a difficult time trying to understand your objective... can you post a link to your site? ... or perhaps, you already resolved it?

Thank you, but I think I've solved it. Haven't had time to really try it though.

In short: I want selected categories to show up horizontally at the top, and all other categories in the sidebar. I'll try to add a new sidebar (top), copy the category listing plugin and edit it to display its categories horizontally.

Sounds like a good plan to start with.
