What the hell???

Post by wolfmont »

I had just finished a long, extensive and heavily linked post... took me over two hours to research and compose... and when I went to save the draft, it said my post was "not well formed" and dumped the whole damn thing.

I was using Firefox 3.0.5 on a Mac, OS X 10.5.6.

I searched the Forum and found that this is a known bug. Why in hell not warn people that this can happen and about what causes it, so they can avoid it???

That's really irresponsible. Users should not feel they need to search out every possible screwup that can happen before they use software. That's Microsoft-type thinking, and not acceptable.

Hi!

Are you using an older Serendipity version? This was reported happening in the HTMLArea WYSIWYG editor and recent Firefox versions, it has been fixed by a new editor in Serendipity 1.4.

Sorry you faced this; generally I suggest to write longish articles in either a different editor with autosave (like OpenOffice), OR make frequent use of the "Save Draft" feature.

When we issue new release, we mentioned that we now use a more reliable WYSIWYG editor.

And Serendipity is an OpenSource project, we do this voluntarily and rely on people's feedback and help. As you might have read in the release notes of virtually any open source project, using it always comes without any warranty whatsoever.

Bugs happen, we're very sorry for that, and we mention every fixed bug in our NEWS files of new releases. That's about as much as we can do without drowning in work.

Best regards,
Garvin
