Help! Problem with my header! (Or, archive help?)

Post by futurepm »

Hopefully this is in the right forum...if not, I apologize.

My site is i(heart)music, and I use Serendipity for my blog. As you can see, there's something wrong with the header which prevents the entire page from loading. The sequence of events which led us to this:

1) I wanted to add some advertising, so I signed up for a service (Adify), and they gave me code to insert on the header.
2) Lacking anything beyond rudimentary HTML skills, I downloaded and installed the HTML-Code inside head (HTML-Head Nugget).
3) I copied and pasted the code given to me into the Head Nugget.
4) Everything was fine for an hour or so, and then my site stopped working, giving me the message:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '/' in /home/iheartmu/public_html/serendipity/include/compat.inc.php on line 305
I've tried updating my software to the most current version for Windows, and I've tried deleting and re-uploading the Head Nugget. So far, neither action has had any effect. Can anyone help me?

EDIT: Alternatively, can anyone tell me whether it would be possible to grab my archives from my current installation, wipe Serendipity from my site, reinstall it, and then import the archives? If so, how would I do this/where are the archives? I have content going back to September 2005, and I'd really hate to lose it all!

Hi!

It seems someone uploaded a bad file include/compact.inc.php - or someone modified that file. Did you do that? Check the timestamp of the file.

Check your webserver's FTP access logs, maybe someone stole your credentials and used them? Also scan your PC for virusses.

Simply re-upload the mentioned file from the original serendipity release archive you are using.

Regards,
Garvin

I initially tried re-upping the file, but that didn't work for some reason. What did work, though, was deleting the "plugin" and "include" folders entirely, replacing them with fresh installations, and then upgrading the rest. It meant I lost a few other plugins, but I can live without those!

Also, I have to say that the new look and feel of the admin panel is really nice, so good job to whoever did that.

I created that admin style originally for the template bulletproof. Beginning with s9y 1.4, bulletproof is now the default, so now that backend will load for any template that does not specifically define their own.

I have about 3 different versions of a front end emulating it in various states of incompletion. One of these days I really need to put everything else aside and simply finish at least one of them!!
