Character Set Help...

Post by Phenie »

Not sure if it's a bug or simply my stupidity - but when I put Japanese fonts in my page title or posts it doesn't seem to encode them in UTF-8, or anything for that matter, as all I get are question marks. I have set the blog to use UTF-8 under "General Options".

Can anyone give a reason for this? Blog address is www.phenie.com.

Hi!

Which browser are you using? Do you have the WYSIWYG editor enabled or disabled? Which event plugins do you have installed?

Thanks for the reply.

I'm using Firefox 3.0.5
Not using the WYSIWYG editor, it's disabled.
Even plugins are just the ones that are pre-enabled I believe:
- Markup: Serendipity
- Markup: Emoticate
- Markup: NL2BR
- Browser Compatibility
- Spam Protector

Hi!

Hm, now that's really strange. Did you at any time change the "UTF-8" option? Like, was it not set to UTf-8 when you installed serendipity?

This *could* be a problem of the database. Check your s9y configuration in the DB section and see if the option "Enable DB charset conversion" to on, or disable it, if it's already enabled. Then try t ocreate a new entry and see if that makes a change.

Which SQL database type and version are you using?

It seems the "Enable DB charset conversion" setting has fixed it... never even saw that one before ^^;

Thanks for the help!
