Getting more Blog Options into Live Writer

Post by rj »

I am not sure where this is an issue. Witih Live Writer or with the RPC plugin?

There is a large issue I contend with daily. Google adsnese BAD WORDS. If there are more than three of them on a PAGE (not article) all adsense goes default, reducing income by more than half.

They are not so much the naughty words as they are... war, shot, gun, death, sucicide, bomber, terrorist, funeral, blood, beaten, killed and so on... Anyone reporting NEWS or decrying violence of any sort is doing to fall into that problem.

Complaining to Google is a waste time, they are very proud of themselves quealching articles containing such words.

So we sometimes need to check the EXTENDED properties plugin that allows us to HIDE articles from the front page. A little check box beneath the editor.

So is there anyway our RPC plugin can get that option into LW or is this something to go to the LW forum with?

Thanx
RJ

If anyone has NEWBIE types who have trouble inside the ADMIN screen this LIVE WRITER sure helps... Just by passing the ADD MEDIA process is a real boon to them...

Hi!

Those are very specific options - extended options that are individual for each weblog program. The RPC is a COMMON standard. There is likely no chance that such blog-wspecific features will every be added to this standard.

There'll probably no way for you to do that, other than editing the entry with serendipity.

You could of course create/program your own parser as a s9y event plugin, so that you put options like "MAKE-FRONTPAGE:TRUE" into your blog posting, then an event plugin filters each incoming new entry, checks if that text exists and sets the appropriate serendipity flags. This is highly specific and something that not very many people would require, so I'm reluctant to put my own free time into programming this. ;)

But with some basic PHP skills this is definitely the only possibility I see.

That is what I assumed and at present we are doing these articles in LW and then as soon as it is published, click EDIT to go the screen, click hide and save... Its an okay process, Just had to make sure...

But for many out there, they sometimes see their Adsense all go default, usually into security ads and do not know why, it is most always because of 4 or more of the GOOGLE BAD words on a page. They also include POT, DRUGS, OXYCOTIN, DOWNERS, BLOOD, BLEED, EXECUTION and Google is well aware of the synonyms and often include them in their exclusion. :)

This is a real pain in the ass for me personally for much of what I do with the blog is decrying violence (which is one of the words) and it is very hard to write an article against teh War in Iraq, or American Gungoonery, or agains capital punishment without using GOOGLE BAD WORDS. Very hard... In fact just about impossible! :)

On the other hand, the MetaWeblog call creating a new post allows for an extended body, which goes in the 'mt_text_more' field. If you write your teaser without any of the words, and include the whole article in the extended body, you'll be hiding them from the front page.

Still there is the title ...
I wanted to do one, 8 year old boy shoots and kills father and friend.
Thats TWO already and in the title they are doubly potent I would imagine.

Or we had one right in my neighborhood last week. 16 year emptied a 9mm into his fathers head because his father yelled at him about what condiments were on his Whooper the boy had taken out at Burger King. A case of SPECIAL ORDERS really upsetting someone! :)
