download manager - memory

Post by ormus7577 »

Hi,

Could it be, that the download manager plugin is quite a memory user? I'm trying to add a 3.5MB download to it (which works), but as soon as someone tries to download it, my server will throw a 500 at me. It's some 1&1 webspace with 40M memory_limit, shouldn't that be enough?

Anyone with experience on such problems?

Regards,
Christian

Hi!

Is your server a 64bit OS machine? If so, PHP uses double the memory, so if you use a lot of plugins you can easily amount to 20MB of RAM, exceeding the 40MB limit (because of doubling the 20MB used).

Serendipity can easily use up 16MB of memory when you have around 10-12 event plugins installed. It all depends on how many event plugins you are using, you can usually add 1 to 1.5MB per event plugin, and the s9y core itself takes up around 4.5MB.
