You can insert adsense in your sidebars using the HTML nugget plugin. If any code has to be loaded in the <head> of the document, you can use the head nugget plugin for that, or you can add the code directly to your template's index.tpl file (if it has one).

If you want adsense elsewhere, like at the beginning/middle/end of an entry, you have to edit your entries.tpl file.

So, a good starting point would be to know where you want to place the code....

Another decent starting point would be to take a look at a template that incorporates advertising within the template. An excellent example of that would be Carl Galloway's Affiliate template: http://www.carlgalloway.com/archives/29 ... iates.html

Once again, it would be very helpful to have a link to your blog so I can see your template code.

Google will generate the code for whatever size ads you wish to display. For the sidebar, you will need to install the html nugget plugin. This plugin can be installed as many times as you want to use it.

Once installed, simply cut and paste your google adsense code for the desired sidebar ad into the plugin's configuration screen. There is an option in the plugin to enable/disable markup - be sure to disable it. Once saved, it may not be exactly where you want it on the page - go to configure plugins again and drag it to where you want it displayed relative to your other sidebar plugins, and save again.

"Above the fold" is a subjective term since it typically means anything above the point where a user would need to scroll vertically. Regardless, I presume you mean either above everything else on the page, or perhaps above most content, but possibly below any banner/header/logo you may be using on your site.

For that, you will probably need to edit your template's index.tpl if it has one. If it does not, you will need to copy the file from /templates/default and place it in your template folder, and then edit it.

There is an option labeled "Perform Markup Transformations". Make sure that is turned off.

Related problem...

Post by carlobal »

I've got a problem related to the one that started this thread. I have a website at http://www.BotanicalGardening.com. There is a Serendipity blog associated with it (I used a nav button to get to it...works fine).

I also use adsense on the website and the blog. Everything works in Windows, but I've added a iMAC to the equation. The website is still working fine through Safari, but the google ads have disappeared from the blog.

I assume since only the blog is affected, that it's a Serendipity thing. Safari settings were played with to allow cookies, enable Java, etc. Can't get the ads to show on the MAC.

Anyone?

Hi!

I can see your ads, so it must be a browser/client problem. Are you sure adsense displays fine on other pages? I bet it doesn't display anywhere for you and that your browser is either filtering it, or not having javascript properly enabled.

Must be a Safari thing - and I cannot really help you there other than to say that I also cannot see the ads using Safari, but can with Firefox.
