Moving Serendipity to a different folder

Moved my blog from /blog/ to the root, using "http://www.s9y.org/198.html
"

Everything appeared to move, except when I went to the website, all I got was a directory listing. Index.php was listed with a question mark beside it, but my browser doesn't read it.

Did I miss something?

Hi!

I've never seen a dir listing with a question mark. Usually this means the index.php cannot be called, how did you move it? Did you make sure the permissions carried over?

I changed my blog directory name from 'serendipity' to 'blog', and everything seems to work fine - except that I get the generic directory listing when I access the blog at my site www.thesfchronicles/blog/ .

I know that this is probably an htaccess file issue, but I don't know where that file would be located. Other CMS systems I have used included the htaccess in the main directory with index.php, etc. But can't find any for Serendipity. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi!

Yes, this is .htaccess related. This file should be contained in your old /serendipity/ directory, so if you moved everything, you should still have it in /blog/. Make sure your FTP client shows files that start with a "."

Hmmm... I looked for it and am not seeing it. Yes my FTP client and Mac OS finder can display .htaccess, I've worked with these files before. I also just downloaded Serendipity again and un-tarred it to see if it created a new htaccess file, but nothing is there either.

I am looking for .htaccess in the main "/serendipity/" directory. Could it be in a subdirectory?

As a last resort, would changing the name of the directory from "serendipity" to "blog" BEFORE I set up the admin do the trick? ( i.e., would it automatically set things up so that my blog home page be accessed without adding the "index.php" to the URL?)

Hi!

.htaccess file is created by s9y after installation. So it should be in your old directory. If you didn't copy it or back it up, you must recreate it.

Login to your s9y installation through serendipity_Admin.php and go to the configuration. There, make sure all paths are correct and re-save the config file. Probably you need to change "URL Rewriting" to "None", save, and then re-enter configuration and change back URL rewriting to what it was before so that .htaccess is recreated.

And if you're using FF3, be careful! Don't let it auto-populate the password fields for the database. It could use incorrect values and block your database access.

Jude, thanks for the tip. Yes I am using FF3 but I went over every field and re-input.

I looked and looked for an .htaccess file in the main level of the s9y directory but never found one. Also not sure about the "URL Rewriting" setting. All I have for this is a drop menu and no option for "none".

But no matter - In the end I decided to just re-download s9y, change the name of the 'serendipity' directory as soon as it was expanded, and upload it that way. Now, after I went in and set up through admin, it works fine using just the domain name for a URL.

Thanks for the great and quick info guys. I hope to be using s9y for all my blogs now.
