Everything in the data base is
authors1
users1
authors2
users2
etc
What do you mean? You should have tables called "serendipity_1authors" and "serendipity_2authors" but NOT "authors1" and "authors"...

Hm, then it should really work. At this point I can only offer to have a look at your installation, if you want to PM me your FTP details...basically, it should work fine if each database prefix is configured into each blog's directory's serendipity_config_local.inc.php...

my setup is as follows:
two subdomains leading to separate blogs
blog.domain.com
solaris.domain.com
i have set up two separate installs of serendipity yet they use the same database. serendipity roots would be like so:
/www/blog/
/www/solaris/
(i have changed the folder from its original serendipity to blog and solaris).
database table prefixes are working correctly (ii_ and solaris_) and i have set up separate mysql users with granted rights accordingly.
apache picks the subdomains just right and document roots are adjusted in virtual hosts. no issues here.
now, when i log into blog.domain.com using firefox, i can click on any of the links and add content, media, etc as normal. this is NOT the case with solaris.domain.com. when i log in via firefox i get the admin screen. however, i can not click on any links to add content, media etc because it loops be back to the login screen. however, if i use IE, i log in and use the admin screen just as normal. i thought maybe a cache issue but i cleared it and still am seeing this problem. thoughts??? thanks in advance.
Hm, I can only imagine it might be related to the HTTP Headers that use different Cookie-Hostname options or so.
As posted above, I can only have a look at it with the actual real blog domain and a s9y account. If you want to do that, plesae PM me with the data.

Garvin
