Post by renata »

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '!' in /home/mhd-01/www.renatavonline.com/htdocs/include/compat.inc.php on line 99

Fatal error: Call to undefined function input_name_to_filter() in /home/mhd-01/www.bbrats.com/htdocs/include/compat.inc.php on line 99

both weblogs are prerry similra, so i guess the errors are identical.
i ran the "validator", no happy-ending, probably because i do not understand what it is telling me. anyone who can help me, please?

Hi!

This looks like you are using an outdated version of Serendipity? The "input_name_to_filter" error should be fixed sine serendipity 1.1 already.

The parse error in compat.inc.php could only happen if you have files that were tampered with.

Best is to reupload the original files.

Garvin

And of course, if you just installed Serendipity, your files were likely corrupted during the upload. Re-upload all the original files to fix the corruption.

hmmm. but no files were changed- that confuses me, and both weblogs are based on the same scripts.
re-upload means what?
of course, i do not have a 100% backup...
oh... clarification... this one's been up for quite a while, and i haven't done anything with it for a while- the weblogs both crashed for some odd reason without me doing anything.

I see. What's happened is that at least one file -- compat.inc.php on renatavonline.com -- has changed without you knowing it. While this could be an intrusion, there are other less sinister ways for it to happen. Server problems, for instance. The best bet there is to replace the file with a backup, or from an archive of the same version of Serendipity. Since you don't know what *else* may have changed, you want to replace *all* the files while you're at it.

The bbrats.com error stems from an older version of s9y, plus some recent change. Since you didn't change anything, it's most likely that your server updated its version of PHP or its configuration. You'll want to upgrade to a newer s9y.

Since you're already replacing all the files on the renatavonline server, you may as well upgrade it at the same time.

Follow the instructions on s9y.org exactly to perform your upgrades. It's basically MAKE A 100% BACKUP, ensure your database user has the appropriate permissions, copy the new files on top of the old ones, and visit your admin page. Serendipity will do the rest of the upgrade on its own.

Once you've got everything back up and running on a new, secure version of s9y, it's time to figure out what happened. Comparing the corrupted files in your backups to the clean files of the same version will tell if you've been hacked and need to take further steps to clean out your web space.
