Not sure if this is a bug or my setup

Post by n2ition »

I was reading a blog this morning and they have a link back to one of my posts. However...it isn't showing up as a trackback on my site. Have I set up something wrong so that my site doesn't recognize external trackbacks? If I link to other posts within my site the trackbacks are recognized...but not when someone else links to me. :(

The post that links back to me is here and the link is the last sentence of the post.

TIA for any help.

That user is using a link with "#extended" to link to your article. But your valid trackback link is without a '#extended' portion, so the bug is on the other guy's side by not using your right trackback link...

Garvin, thanks for the hint on what the problem was. I contacted the other blog owner and requested they change the link so that I might trouble shoot my trackbacks, which they so graciously did. Unfortunately the trackback still is not working. Once again I am wondering if it is something I have setup incorrectly.

By the way, if I select the trackback link on my site and click on the "Trackback specific URI for this entry" link I get this error:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
- <response>
<error>1</error>
<message>Danger Will Robinson, trackback failed.</message>
</response>
Is this what it should say? I'm a syndication idiot and am not really sure what that particular link is for. (I provided the "direct link to this entry" for the other blogger to link to.)

I know you are very busy and have answered TONS of my questions already but any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am in the process of not only working on this blog but setting another one up for my daughter.

Thanks again for all your help.

n2ition: This may very well be just a problem of the system your trackback partner is using. Some systems do not send trackbacks again when changing a link.

The message for your trackback sepcific URI is right. You are only allowed to post XML metadata to that URL, that's why it says "trackback specific URI". :-)

You need to give the url http://www.n2ition.com/serendipity/inde ... TORS!.html to your user, which you did. His system then needs to send the trackback to the RDF-URL http://www.n2ition.com/serendipity/comm ... ntry_id=16.

I don't use typepad, so I sadly cannot help further with this...

Best regards (and you're welcome)

Thanks for following up on this for me. With all of the questions I have been posting lately and all of the trouble shooting you have been giving me I feel like you are my own personal "help desk". I'm almost done (I think) with fine tuning my site...so questions should slow down a bit. :)

No problem, I enjoy being a personal helpdesk.

In return, I'm going to come haunting your finished bungalow if I ever get to the US. ;-)
