"Cannot backup tables" upgrade failure to 1.3.1.0.

Working through aplus.net's web-based interface... my Serendipity tool states:

Current Official Version: [ 1.3.1 ]
Current Control Panel Version: [ 1.3.1.0.1 ]
Currently Installed Version: [ 1.1.3 ]

and advises me to upgrade to 1.3.1.0.1, but when I try it tells me that the upgrade failed because "Cannot backup tables."
