removing /serendipity/ from URL

Post by rich4647 »

Good Day,

I am working with a previously installed instance of Serendipity.

I am new to this product and am currently playing with it to see if it meets our needs as a CMS.

In all of our URLs there is the /serendipity/ prefix before anything else.
Is there a configuration setting somewhere that will allow pages to be posted directly to the root of the URL.

It appears there is something to do this in the installation, but I'd rather not install it again just for this.

Thanks in advance

Serendipity typically defaults to an install path of yoursite.com/serendipity/. If you move everything to the domain root, you need to reconfigure serendipity to point to that new path.

Thanks for the reply Don,

I figured there was a way to do it.

Can you tell me where Serendipity is configured to point to a directory?

Also, is this an easy task or is it better to simply re-install correctly?

I think that's a simple change. Just go to your admin page, click "Configuration" in the menu on the left, and open the "Paths" section. You can update all the paths there; s9y will need both the filesystem path and the URL path.

If you're actually planning on moving the blog to a new directory, I'd recommend checking out the "Moving Serendipity to a New Directory" instructions on s9y.org.

Note to self: I need to do this as well once my parallel site at /serendipity is ready to replace my old site.

It looks difficult, but it's not so bad. Mostly search-and-replace in a text editor.
