SOLVED: Entries different using www or not

Post by zoeselina »

Hi,

Recently, for seemingly no reason, I am having problems depending on whether I enter the www at the beginning of the URL for my website.

Depending on whether or not I log in to s9y with the "www" certain entries won't save properly, or disappear all together. The same happens on the site. For example, www.zoeselina.com will show an entry I wrote yesterday when I logged in using the www, whereas today's entry I logged in without the www and this only shows up if I visit http://zoeselina.com

What is going on? :?:

Hi!

You might want to check your s9y configuration and enable "Autodetect HTTP-Hostname" so that s9y can pick the host you entered in the browser.

Usually it's mismatching javascript security borders when you use a URL different than the one you configured.

Hmm, that hasn't helped. I cleared my cache just in case, but no joy. Any suggestions?

Rrr! Even after upgrading to the latest stable version of s9y I am still having the same problem. :(

Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Is it possible that you've actually got two installations of Serendipity?

Usually www.domain.tld and domain.tld redirect to the same host. However, it would be possible to set them up as separate hosts, with different content. In that case, you'd get two directories, two Serendipity installations, two databases, and symptoms very similar to the ones you've described.

It's a long shot, but what the heck.

On the other hand, I see the same articles regardless of which URL I use. Different random quote, though. Perhaps it's got something to do with you being logged in automatically, and seeing draft or future articles. Do you have the same problem when you log out?

Nope, definitely only the one installation. The weird thing is, now I have logged in from a different computer, and I can only see the entries that were entered using the www. This includes in the admin panel... my latest entry that I made without the www is not there no matter what I log in with on this computer. So frustrating!

Hi!

Uff, that can'T be! Serendipity only has a SINGLE database, no matter if you use WWW or no WWW. This makes judeberts clue more likely.

There's something pretty wicked with your setup. I guess I can only help if you give me temporary FTP and s9y blog access, then I might be able to lift that clueless veil ;)

Mystery solved...

In the end, I contacted my hosting provider and they said that they had recently made some changes, and hadn't updated all the settings... so there actually were two databases, I just couldn't see it. So now it seems that the problem is fixed, but I lost two posts in the process. D'oh. Luckily they weren't particularly important ones.

Thanks everyone for your help.
