Hi,
before installing serendipity, I would like to know if it is possible to allow users to post only to special categories.
I would like to setup up a main page that shows all categories and several sub pages that dislay the entries of only one special category. Editors should only be enabled to post to special categories.
Thanks a lot,
Jan

Re: Allow users only to post to special categories
We currently have no sohpisticated category permission management system. You can only define "global" categories in which every user can post, and you can greate "personal" categories into which only the Owner can post to.
Maybe that already suffices for you, as it suffices for most users. We aim to improve this permission system though for Serendipity 0.9.
Regards,
Garvin

Re: Allow users only to post to special categories
Hi, Garvin,
usually it would be no problem to give all editors the right of posting to all categories. But I'm trying to set up a system people should use that are not very familiar with computer things. So, giving them the right to post to every category would mean they would always post to the first of all listed... :-/
Nevertheless, Serendipity seems to be a great software. But I think it will take some time till the release of version 9.0, or?
Thanks,
Jan

Re: Allow users only to post to special categories
Yes, work on 0.9 has not yet started, so I wouldn'T expect a release within the next 3-4 months.
But maybe you can think about creating category-useraccounts instead of personal user accounts. So more than one user would use one s9y account, and each s9y account can only post to 1 or 2 categories. This may conflict with other goals you have with your site, so it'S just a proposal.

Yes, you're right. That does conflict with athor goals for I want to know who wrote the entries...garvinhicking wrote:But maybe you can think about creating category-useraccounts instead of personal user accounts.
What do you think: Will it be very difficult updating from 0.8 to 0.9? 0.8 would be a good start and would serve my purpose for the next months. When will 0.8 reach release status?
Thanks,
Jan

Re: Allow users only to post to special categories
0.8 has been released yesterday.
Our upgrading policy is that upgrades are alway possible. So evne Serendipity 0.5 users can automattedly upgrade to 0.8 easily. This is our aim for any upcoming release, so expect 0.9 to be upgradable easily as well.

Garvin
