Adding RSS Channels

Post by cam2see »

Hello there,

I am looking to add different RSS channels from remote websites. What is the best way of adding multiple remote RSS channels to my blog shown at www.cam2sex.com/blog

Thanks in advance

Hi!

Check the serendipity_event_aggregator plugin, this allows you to feed RSS feeds into your blog.

serendipity_event_aggregator plugin

Post by cam2see »

Hi Garvin,

thanks for the speedy response.

I can't find the serendipity_event_aggregator plugin when I attempt to install it under the Events plugin list.

Do I first need to download it from the Serendipity site?

Cheers

If you do not use the spartacus plugin, you will need to download it, unzip it, and ftp it to your server before it is listed as an available plugin. Then you install it.

RSS Channels

Post by cam2see »

Thanks Don,

I have installed the serendipity_event_aggregator plugin using the default settings, thank you.

Unfortunately, I am still not sure how I can add RSS channels from external websites so they appear on my blog?

I want my visitors to be able to see the external RSS feeds in a list and then allow them to click through to the link page.

Does this make sense?

Thanks

EDIT: did you see this note on the plugin screen:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Updating and "feeding" your Aggregator must currently still happen manually via Cronjobs or similar. Call this URL with your custom timing interval: index.php?/plugin/aggregator
Another possibility for a single feed would be serendipity_plugin_remoterss, which is stackable, so you could install and configure the plugin for each feed you wanted.

RSS Channels

Understood Don.

I did install the Remote RSS/OPML-Blogroll Feed plugin. Is this the alternative plugin you are referring to?

I did notice that I could not place a link to the RSS entries. It simply listed the entries under the RSS feed but a visitor had no links to click on.

Are you aware of what setting in this plugin will show links?

Cheers

Hi Don,

I have installed the serendipity_plugin_remoterss and I have worked out the config. setting required to display the links on the page.

How do you setup this plugin to be stackable? ie I want to list multiple feeds. Do I have to install the plugin again for each feed I want to display?

Thanks in advance

Yes.... You would then be creating a sidebar item for each feed.

I guess the question is whether this plugin is the better choice for your needs, or if Garvin's original suggestion of using serendipity_event_aggregator is the better choice. I have never used the latter, so I cannot be sure which to recommend. Perhaps someone who has, or is using both, can provide insight.

Left side bar

Post by cam2see »

Thanks Don,

I will have to work out which is the best option.

On another matter, I have installed the remoterss plugin on the left side bar on http://www.cam2sex.com/blog

Is there a way we can increase the width of the left side bar and decrease the main column?

Thanks in advance

Where did this template come from? It looks like it will need some modifications to accomplish your objectives. Perhaps the original template author can assist, because it does not look to me like a left sidebar was anticipated in this template.

I would be happy to assist you with this, but have a lot of irons in the fire right now. If you would like me to make this a priority "iron", just drop me a PM.
