Why does Blog software do this???

Post by noodles »

This is the second blog software I'm trying and I realy like the layout better than the last.

But one thing that bugs me is:

Why does every entry also show up on the home page???

I do have a category called HOME, you know! And I'd like only those entries to show up there.

But it seems blog software does not allow this. Didn't offer this option with the last software I tried and this one doesn't either.

It would only be LOCIGAL to have a certain entry only show in it's assigned category and not also on the home page.

Anyone have a solution? I'd love to reprogram this to work!!!

Butthis is precisely how blog software is supposed to work. Every major blog platform does this, Wordpress, Blogger, TypePad, Nucleus, even the portal style CMSs do it.

Using Serendipity you can change this by installing the static pages plugin and making one of those pages the frontpage. Hope that helps.

Another option for you - install the plugin extended properties for entries. After you do, you will have a checkbox that says "Hide from article overview / frontpage "

Hi!

Or you install the "serendipity_event_startcat" plugin ("Start Page Category)". With that you can define which category should serve as the "home" category.

I did install serendipity_event_startcat and will play around to get it working.

It still shows entries from other categories, even though I have HOME chosen as the Initial view category

very strange - but thanks again!

Hi!

In your case, that's a special feature: If you choose a category for the initial view, this includes showing ALL subcategories of that tree!

Since all your categories are sub-categories of "Home", they are still shown. You can modify that behaviour, though. To do this, you must do either:

1. Move all your subcategories outside of the "Home" categories, so that they are parallel, and not nested.

OR

2. You install the serendipity_event_categorytemplates ("Extended properties for categories") plugin, go to the category management, pick the "HOME" category to configure it, and set the option "Hide entries of subcategories".

HTH,
Garvin

I chose option 1 and tightened up my categories a bit.

This software is great. Thanks again for the support
