banner include code

Hi forum,
I user s9y on a freehost which requires I display their banner at the top of every page.
Does anyone have a good include script I can use to put their code in at the top of every s9y page in my blog?

Use Serendipity 0.8, create a custom template (see wiki on www.s9y.org, documentation section "styles") and edit the index.tpl file to insert the HTML code.

I didn't create a custom template but just inserted the banner code in index.tpl - after a few hints from someone in the irc channel.
Do you recommend creating a custom template from the default index.tpl so I have a clean backup copy of the default?

I definitely recommend creating your own template. If you modify the default template you will loose any changes after each Serendipity upgrade.
