which index.tpl

Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

I'm using the default layout for Serendipity, but would like to add a few things to it, and as I understand it, I need to edit the index.tpl file that corresponds to the format I'm using.

I can't seem to find the right index.tpl file to edit. What folder is it in?

What I'd like to do is add a menu bar to it, as I'm using this blog as a News page within the rest of my site. The rest of the pages have a menu bar at the top and I'd like to do the same on this blog page. Am I on the right track?

If, by "default template" you mean serendipity 3.0, that folder is carl_contest.

By Default I mean I haven't changed any settings at all. I'll try that folder and see how it goes.
