Static Pages Installation Failure

Post by kyslugbug »

Went to:
Configure plugins
Click here to install a new event plugin

Clicked icon to install static pages:
Static Pages
Shows static pages inside your blog with your blogs design and all formattings. Adds a new menu item to the admin interface.
Author: Marco Rinck, Garvin Hicking, David Rolston, Falk Doering, Stephan Manske; version: 3.56; (Spartacus)

Installation failed and I got this page:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
http://www.oneconservativeamerican.com/ ... tch]=event

Static pages folder is in the plugins directory:
/public_html/plugins/serendipity_event_staticpage/

Any ideas?

Hi!

This usually happens if your webserver could not properly fetch the required files. If you try again, does it always show the error?

Which mirror did you configure in the spartacus plugin? Netmirror.org? Maybe you can try to use SourceForge.net instead and see if it works?

The error message you get means that your PHP process seems to die, and your browser cannot display a valid page. Can you ask your provider for the verbose PHP error logs?

Regards,
Garvin

Thanks for the help.
Didn't help to change mirrors. Static Pages is the only plugin that I've had trouble installing with Spartacus.

When I got the Page Cannot be Displayed message, I hit refresh a couple of times and got an error page that suggested that I install it manually.

Even though the Static Pages dir was already uploaded to the plugins dir, I re-uploaded it and chose to overwrite existing files. Static Pages is now installed and seems to be working.

Hope this all helps someone else out there.
Thanks!

Hi!

The 'Page cannot be displayed'message is really only a generic message of your browser, telling you that your server's PHP process crashed. You must ask your provider for the PHP error logs to find out why.

The other error page you are talking about, what exact error messages 'suggested that you install it manually"?

Best regards,
Garvin

I tried unsuccessfully to save the web page, but all I managed to save was a file named:
View VCException

HTML code:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<!-- saved from url=(0227)http://www.oneconservativeamerican.com/ ... tch]=event -->
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
<META content="MSHTML 6.00.6000.16481" name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>

Hi!

You must ask your provider for the PHP error logs to find out what is happening. As I mentioned, what your browser displays cannot help to figure out the problem.

Best regards,
Garvin
