Hi!

We were approached by members of the GoPHP5 initiative, but I declined for Serendipity to take part in it.

Serendipity is fully PHP5 compatible, and we encourage the use of PHP5. But Serendipity has always been around full compatibility. Currently we have no internal features that long for PHP5, and thus I see no reason to implement a PHP5.2 requirement when in fact s9y would run with PHP4 just alright.

When in the future serendipity needs PHP5 features, we will use them happily- but I find it quite stupid to sign a paper to deprecate PHP4 when it's not really required. I wouldn't feel well to sign a statement like this, because it would be a slap in the face of users to require something, that we only require because of social reasons and not technical ones.

Having said that, I wish the GoPHP5 initiative much success. We would all benefit from better PHP5 environments, and Serendipity will try to push that ground by also looking into the future, but only on a thorough, fundamental and realistic point of view.

Best regards,
Garvin
