Counting top exits doesn't work for me

Post by urmelchen »

Hi there,
i was wondering that my top exits get not counted? I've always see 0 top exits, but i'm sure there are much more ;-) Does the plugin depends on another plugin? Is there something i can check?

TIA & HAND,
René

Hi!

Actually, yes there's something wrong in your install. Your exit-URL look like:

http://www.gaehn.org/exit.php?url=aHR0c ... ntry_id=63

But properly they would read

http://www.gaehn.org/exit.php?url_id=XXX&entry_id=63

So this means that the links are not saved in your serendipity_references DB table. When you save an entry, do you get the message "Entry saved"? Or does it not give you anything?

It might be that the trackback recognition is not working on your server and stopping the entry detection...

Best regards,

Sounds wired :-( Yes i got the message "entry saved" (in german: Trackback failed: Keine Trackback-URI gefunden.
Der Eintrag wurde gespeichert (Anzeigen)). Because of this multiple problems i actualy have, i'd like to install my own s9y version on my own webspace. Maybe this works better ... and of curse i can fix a lot of the issues reported by me, by myself ;-)

Hi!

Hm, yeah...I'm sadly afraid that we might need some debuggin to find the cause of the error?!

Hi!

Without FTP access, no - you can't do anything about it.

My idea is that some network connection fails or some event plugin fails when posting an entry.

I had this problem once, I reinstalled all plugins from scratch and moved the Exit tracker one higher and it all seems to work.
I don't know what it was what it did, the order that I installed the plugins or the order that s9y runs them in?

Hi!

Yes, exactly. Serendipity executes the plugin from top to bottom, in that order like you installed them.

It's realy crazy. I played a little bit around and i only can see the "Top exits" if i install the "Karma" Plugin. If i delete/disabke the Karma plugin, i can't see the "Top exits" link/text. Whats wrong? Whats the difference between the "Textformat: counting top exits" and the "show top exits from the blog" (translated from german) inside the Karma plugin? In which way those plugins depend from each other?

Hi!

Both plugins utilize a specific entry variable, that both might influence and/or overwrite.

Can you tell me which serendipity version and which versions of the involved karma/exits plugins you are using? And how exactly you configured them both?

Best regards

I use "Textformatierung: Externe Links zählen" version 1.6 and "Karma" version 1.8. At the moment "Textformatierung: Externe Links zählen" is inactive and "Karma" is configured "Show top exits of the blog (O) YES". But before counting exit links inside "Karma" was disabled and "Textformatierung: Externe Links zählen" was configured to use the Serendipity exit counting method for every entry (every option checked).

Serendipity version: 1.1-alpha5 and PHP 4.3.10-10ubuntu4.4

Hi!

Ah! Well, the "Top Exits" usually would only show up in your "Exits sidebar plugin" or in the statistics in your blog.

The karma plugin can aggregate all exits into a number and display that. I agree that it would have been wiser to put that functionality into the Top Exits plugin, and not into the karma plugin :-D

I think you're hijacking this thread for a different question? This thread is about karma-plugin and exit-tracking compatibility.

To fix exit tracking in serendipity 1.1.x versions you can: Either upgrade to Serendipity 1.2 snapshots, or disable the "Cache entries" functionality of your "Extended properties for entries" plugin.

If you DON'T want scrambled urls, just uninstall the 'Track exits' event plugin.

Nope my problem really matches the problem described above.
I want exit tracking like the thread starter and i have no problem with the scrambled URLs. I already updated to 1.2 und updated an entry in order to check if makes exit tracking work for that entry. But it didn´t help.

I think I don´t have these both plugins "cache entries" and "extendend properties" installed. I can only guess their german names, so i think they aren´t installed.
