Total NOOOB----trouble with plugins!

Post by angelcitysdevil »

hey guys, im extremely new to serendipity. I just switched over to my own shared hosting domain (www.angelcitysdevil.com) and setup a Serendipity blog. So far, Serendipity is everything blogger was not, which I love. However, I am NEW to HTML, CSS and PHP (the only experience I have is messing with HTML in my myspace profile). As embarassing as it is, I need help. ...

I have successfully installed Spartacus (yay!) but for some reason only certain plugins will install successfully of the list while others give a message similar to this:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /home/content/a/n/g/angelcityboy/html/serendipity/include/admin/plugins.inc.php on line 441
....

Understand that I am a complete noob but have the strongest desire to learn how to program this myself (the two webdesigners I've hired in the past month have BOTH flaked)....

Help!!!

Thanks!!

Hi!

It might be that Spartacus can not properly work on your website.

Which plugin did you try to install? If you FTP to your site, can you check if that plugin exists in your "plugins" directory?

You also might need to see if your "plugins" directory is writable (777)?

Best regards,
Garvin

Thanks GAVIN!

for the concise response, it's very appreciated.

I was trying to install the "email entry" plugin, and "header html" plugin, both gave similar messages.

However, after reading your clear and helpful response, when I attempted to login to my serendipity admin via my blog (www.angelcitysdevil.com/serendipity), it gives me a "Page Not Found" response. Now I can't login to try and fix the plugin situation :( I have deleted my browsers (Firefox) cookies and made sure it allows all cookies....

I have even checked the directory and the admin. file is still there...

thoughts?

thanks!!

Hi!

Try to login by calling the 'serendipity_admin.php' URL directly:

http://www.angelcitysdevil.com/serendip ... _admin.php

It seems you have deleted your .htaccess file, because s9y URL rewriting seems to be enalbed but is not working on your installation. So you need to login using that URL and go to s9y configuration and set "URL Rewriting" to "None"...
Regards,
Garvin
