Dates and languages

Post by randulo »

Hi,

I've been away a long time. I really like the improvements on the latest version, which I have just set up.

One thing I don't see though is why all dates are in English regardless of the display language selected. I'm not sure we need the calendar, but while it's there it shows dates in English, like the publication dates. Names of sdays and months are all in English.

Has there been a change in the way dates are handled? Is there some language-related module I am missing?

Thanks

That depends on your servers locale setup! Serendipity uses the "Locale" system to display dates and month names. So if you use "german" for example, your server must have a locale like "de_DE".

You can contact your server provider to install the necessary locales that are needed for your language.

Hi Garvin,

Yeah, I've had this problem before with a Solaris server, but never on these servers. Did the older serendipity use Locale ? I'm pretty sure I didn't have to get the locales set up before? (or they were already setup on the other servers)

I must remember to re-visit your wishlist because I'm using more and more s9y installations. I really like the new plugins interface by the way, bravo for that.

Hi!

Yes, serendipity uses locales since version 0.0 :-)

So it might have been that this new server is configured differently than the old one - that can indeed happen.

Thanks a lot! :-) :-)

Thanks a lot! :-) :-) <-- DONE - I PMed you so yoiu can expect the package

This is what I did to fix the problem:

I was surprised by this because I hadn't probably chosen UTF-8 before and that was missing.

I went to the older FreeBSD server and zipped fr_FR.UTF-8 which I then transferred to the new server.

I unzipped it (as root) in the /usr/share/locales directory and that's it. I hope the locales formats haven't changed between versions :)

ANyway, I'll need to do this with all the lang_LANG.UTF-8 sets I will need. In this case I think it's just en and FR.

Thanks again Garvin, and enjoy!

Garvin, did you ever get the PM I sent and did you get the package? I'm getting German spam from amazon.de so I know the order went through :)

Hi randulo!

Oh, didn't I reply? I'm sorry! If you were the one who ordered Stalker, then this should arrive shortly. It'll be released at the end of this month, so I still have to wait a bit :) :)

Many thanks!

Best regards,
Garvin

Well, as long as you got the PM. Otherwise, heh, debug phpBB2. 3 out shortly :)

I want to take this opportunity to suggest that anyone who uses the software visit your list or donate. I really appreciate your work and that of others in the field. I always show appreciation when possible. Just today I inserted a great free Flash mp3player into a s9y static page and I have purchased a license for the player.

While I'm talking about giving, here's a way to make the world a better place:

http://talkathon.org

The mp3 player is in the above page, the talkathon.org (s9y install is under construction), the microlending site is http://kiva.org where for $25 you can make siomeone's day AND get the money back later.

Regards,

randulo
