My client dislikes the comments posted by a particular visitor. I looked at his use of Spam Protector (v1.26) and he seems to be using it corrctly, but the visitor's posts still arrive in the approval queue.
Any suggestions for possible glitches in this Plug-In?
Mike

Hi!
What happens exactly? How do the comments look like by the particular visitor, and what of the spamblock settings you think regulate the use of that?
Best regards,
Garvin

Re: Spam Protector (1.26) Doesn't Seem to Work
The particular objectionable commentator goes by the name of Captain Anon, or something like that.
The client has put the name in the Wordfilter for author names but the comment still appears for approval. My understanding is that the Spam Protector should keep the submitted content from being written to the databse.
I had suggested just blocking the IP, but he doesn't want to do that.

Hi!
Can you tell me the exact contents of the "Wordfilter for authornames" field? Also check what the option "Activate wordfilter" is set to. If that is set to "none", no wordfilters are applied. Set it to "reject" or "moderate" instead.
HTH,
Garvin

Hi!
Hm, that basically looks okay to me. Can you tell me the URL to that page?
There are a lot of variations for that "Captain Anon", could it be that the messages that get through simply have an author name that varies from the ones, like if he uses "Captain_anon"?
Regards,
Garvin

Hi
Please forgive me for not getting back sooner. I'm travelling and the opportunity (or internet) is not always there.
The blog is http://www.oregoncatalyst.com.
I looked at the database, and took a little time to test, and your assumption appears to be right...there are a number of variations on the name and not all of them are listed in the Wordfilter for author names.
And my client has decided not to block this guy after all.
So I am going to clean out the entries in the Wordfilter and I'll work on more effective strategies if he decides again that he wants to block the guy.
Mike

Hi!
No problem, thanks for letting me know about this.
You might want to consider only allowing comments fmo registered users, if that is an option for you?
Regards,
Garvin
