Remove Comments from Posts

Is it possible to change existing posts so that people cannot leave comments?

I am getting too much spam comments posted and I am wondering if there is a switch or something I can tick that changes all existing posts so that they can longer have comments posted to them, or do I have to edit every individual post?

Or is there a way in which I can have the person posting a comment emailed their comment and have them approve it before notification of the comment is presented to me??

Yes, edit the entry and uncheck the "Comments are allowed" box

If you globally want to do that, you can use the spamblock plugin.
