FAQ Plugin changes

Post by Don Chambers »

Recent posts to this forum indicate that many of the developers are fairly busy these days so I thought I would try to figure out a few things on my own rather than bother you guys with trivial modification requests.

I modified the 3 TPL's used by the FAQ plugin so that the output now matches entries, static pages, etc. I wanted this plugin to be consistent with everything else on my site and now it looks great.

I do not mind offering these changes to whomever might be interested, but I do not know how to go about that, and I do not want my changes to offend the original author(s).

So - is this sort of revision the kind of thing offered up as a potential upgrade to the plugin, or is this type of change something people generally keep to themself?

I have done something similar in the past, and judging from my experience, Falk is pretty open to suggestions :)

The faq plugin is a seldom used plugin that has probably been much in need of a genuine user coming forward and making suggestions. As yl says, Falk is very receptive to improving his plugins so I would recommend sending him the details of what you've done.

If he chooses not to use your mods then feel free to post the url of your zipfile here.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I do not claim to be an expert, just trying to modify things to serve my own needs and thought this particular set of modifications might be of interest to others. I will attach a zip file of the changes, then attempt to PM the original author.

I'm too lazy to capture before/after screen shots on my own site, but perhaps a few of you would try these changes and report back here with your opinion.

The enclosed zip file contains the 3 tpls I modified for the FAQ plugin. I am restructuring my entire site, so I cannot guarantee how long this file will be available at this address, but it should work for now. These files should be extracted to your /../plugins/serendipity_event_faq/ directory.
