Simple User Guide?

Post by MrTeroo »

Hello

I have set up a blog for an ex servicemans association. Can anyone point me to a very simple step by step guide of how to post a blog entry? I have seen the one on s9y but it doesn't seem correct. eg

>>Type in your post and even add pictures using the Image Manager >>Icon (hovering over the top of each icon on the bars above your post >>will display text as to what they are...look for the one >>displaying "Manage Images")

There is no 'Manage Images' icon.

All these old boys are 80+ years, so I am hoping to find just a very basic walk through of how to post an entry.

Thanks

Hi!
There is no 'Manage Images' icon.
There should be! Are you using the WYSIWYG editor? If yes, then you need to find an icons whose label is "Manage media".
All thes old boys are 80+ years, so I am hoping to find just a very basic walk through of how to post an entry.
Phew. I'm afraid there has not been done something like that. If it's not on www.s9y.org, we don't "officially" have it. There are some german tutorials (also on www.s9y.org or linked on our page) which steer into that direction, though.

Best regards,
Garvin

Hello

Yes I know that the icon is actually called 'Manage Media' but when you are over 80 years old, that isn't so obvious.

If a tutorial instructs you to look for 'Manage Images' that is exactly what you do.

Thanks anyway

If you are using the standard editor, then the button you are looking for is labeled 'Media", which opens a popup box allowing users to selecte from an image already uploaded to Serendipity. If they have a new image they want to upload then they would need to click the 'Add Media' button that is in the popup window.

I'm a big fan of encouraging older people to get involved with the Internet, so if you could tell me what version of Serendipity you have installed, and which text editor they are using, I'd be happy to writeup a guide for you and then post it on the s9y-users site.

Thank you

FYI it is www.41st-entry.co.uk

Nothing there yet, they need to pluck up the courage to try!

Hi Carl!

Great effort, that would be very kind of you. And as MrTerroo mentions, I'm sure many people could benefit from this!

Ok, this has been needed for some time, I'll get started on it today, but likely will take me a couple of days to complete with screenshots. All guides that will be appearing on the s9y-users site will also have an accompanying pdf for users to download.

Ok, Creating Entries with the WYSIWYG Editor, the first beginners user guide is now published.

I haven't yet created the .pdf of this document, and it will be extended over the next few days to include a detailed explanation of the wysiwyg editor, and also a detailed explanation of the media manager.

Please take a look and tell me if anything is missing, or needs improving. BTW, the guide is written for beginners, so please don't be offended by some of the explanations.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated. That particular guide is just the first in a series of beginner guides I'm going to write, and they'll all be collated into a beginners book which will be made freely available to the community. I also need to improve the quality of the screenshots.

The beginners book will be separate from the "Customising Serendipity" book which is still being thought about.
