Pete I see you've successfully managed to install the ceejay01 template, excellent this means that it is working.

I have a question, are you on dialup? Did you have other downloads going at the same time, for example the windows update service, or are you using Firefox 2.0? If the answer is yes then you probably had timeout issues on your local PC.

FF2 gives dialup users timeout issues?!?

yes, the timeout settings have been reduced, they seem to assume we all have broadband... for normal browsing it isn't a problem, but as soon as you get any congestion on your connection (multiple tabs 5-6, or if you are downloading something else in the background) it chokes. IE7 and Opera are actually better with their timeout settings, and to make it worse, FF2 seems to have removed the timeout from about:config

hi carl, no, i work with a dsl2000, flat included. there's no dial up here since years anymore. finally i'm so glad, that everything works. due to the fact, i was a satisfied wp user and now i am working with s9y, i was quite frustrated, when nothing worked out. i am sure, you and yellow both agree, a template is the best part of a cms. it represents the blog itself. that's it, what the visitor sees first, if he comes to the website. now, where ev'rything's clear so far, i will reinstall s9y again, but not today anymore. i tried half of the day to solve this permissions problem. tomorrow, i'll start again. thank you again all of you for your help. c ya. :o)

Glad to hear we may have converted you to Serendipity, and seriously, welcome to our forums.

I agree that a template is the face of your blog and you do need to be happy with it, but I don't think you'll need to reinstall Serendipity, it seems to be working so maybe you just need to make whatever changes you need. Feel free to keep this thread going with any other changes you want, someone will be able to help.

Hi Carl, hi all.

The blog is on now. But I don't know how integrate an "About me" Seite that shall be displayed if a visitor clicks the "About" link in the header's menu. A URL shall be entered. But how do I integrate this?

Thanks in advance

You could either do an "About me" page using static html, even have it on another site (like I do; my "About me" is part of my website), or - probably the easiest solution - use the Static pages plugin for s9y. In this case, the generated pages will fit nicely into your blog.

Or did you mean something different?

can't find impressum.html

Now, you were absolutely right. But right now, the problem is. The description meta tag of my front page has changed into another page title. I saw at the page source code, that the impressum.html has the wrong meta tag, but I can't find it, don't know, where it's stored. Do you have an idea?

Pete, I see from your impressum that you are in Germany. Is German your preferred language? We seem to be having some difficulty understanding each other, so would you be happier taking this question the the deutsch forum so that yellowled or another german speaking user can help you in German?

Hi Carl,

I don't have any problems with your language. It's just like this. I try to use English daily, and my problem is not the language. My prob is that seredipity uses a different menu structure, compared with WP is a bit complicated to see and understand the plugins. In WP i just inserted the path to the page and it was displayed. S9y is slighty different. Meanwhile I found, what it was. You click on "static pages", create a new website and the "description" of the site has to changed to work properly. So, you see, it's problem with the tongue, is one with the code. thanks again for your help.

thank's a lot carl. the prob was. I thought the description title of the front page would be changed completely. It was only changed, when I clicked at the Impressum links in the left corner at the bottom of the page. With the new description, the page title "Impressum" is displayed in the upper left side of the front page. When I click at the "Impressum" link. Now I have enough time to find out, how to create a good looking "About me" site, now where I know how to integrate it.

Do I may ask, where are you from exactly? Since you seem to be from America, you also offer tutorials in Deutsch (German) too. And I forgot to wish you, Garvin and the rest of the forum visitors a good and successful 2007. Thank you, Yelloled and Garvin for your help. I will only use S9y from now and know, whenever I have a question, I can ask it in the forum.

Thank you very much. May I add a link to your website or introduce your project in one of the first articles? Since I use a template of one of your authors.

Pete you are very welcome. We are always very keen to help new Serendipity users, and I must say its a delight to hear that you will be using s9y from now on.

Also, thank you for the good wishes for 2007, I had a quiet but relaxing new year day, but from emailing some of the other forums members I think some of them had a very loud party with lots to drink. I wish I had been in Norway for one of them. My location is a closely guarded secret, there are spies everywhere, lol, but I'm not is the US, Australasia is the name for Australia and New Zealand together.

As for linking to my site etc, please do, and also don't forget to register your blog in the s9y-users directory, this is a new site but I am spending a lot of money promoting it and already the big G has indexed the pages. All of my deutsch tutorials have been translated by other forum members and I can't claim credit for them, but I amsure the authors of those would be delighted that you found them useful.

Once again, welcome to Serendipity.
