Generate Pop Up Window

Is there a way to insert a link into a blog entry that will generate a pop-up window, containing an image only, like this:



instead of directing the reader away from current content?

Hi!

When you insert an image frmo the serendipity media database in version 1.1, you have the choice to select a popup.

In earlier serendipity versions you can install the "Extended options for media database" event plugin which will give you the ability to set a "target" for an enlarged image.

I'm running Serendipity 1.0; I'm happy with it; it was included as part of my package with host aplus.net (who I'm also happy with); so should I just work with the plugin or should upgrade to 1.1?

You will need to upgrade to 1.1 to make use of the popup function, but you might want to do so anyway, 1.1 is a major update and includes a lot of nice things that you'll come to love and probably wonder how you managed without.

Also, with a popup image, don't forget about the litebox plugin. This a really groovy plugin that opens an image in a javascript popup with transparent background that allows the user to see the image, stay on your site, and also see your page beneath it. It looks good, works well, and can be used with version 1.0

The extended media selector plugin can be installed with 1.0! In 1.1 you don't need it anymore, that was what I was trying to say

Thanks you guys this is really helping; soon I'll be an expert someday. But I ;ike Serendipity, I hope to upgrade, but I'm going to wait a little. I guess I have a problem with some permissions somewhere.

I tried installing the Extended Media plugin, I lightened up some permissions somewhere, I didn't think it would hurt, I changed some 5's to 7's, I have to check back; before I knew I was finished, I started messing with the Spartacus plugin; from the Serendipity Administration Suite(SAS): I check the Spartacus Box, and then I click "click here to intall new plugin" and get this error:

Also, when adding a weblink to my blog from the SAS "entry", I click "SAVE" , and I get this error:

Hi Charles!

Sadly those messages mean that your webserver is firewalled and cannot create outgoing connections.

This means:

A. You cannot send trackbacks

B. You cannot use Anti-Spam methods like Akismet, SURBL or DNSBL

C. You cannot use Spartacus.

I'm sorry, but there's not way Serendipity can work around that restriction of your provider. To get/download plugins you will need to manually download the ZIP files frmo spartacus.s9y.org and put them on your server.

And you might want to download the 'Trackback Control' plugin to disable sending trackbacks for your entries.

The thing that hits you most is that you cannot use Akismet. :-/
